  • question regarding color mapping

    hi everybody,

well it has been a long time since the last post.
I have recently installed the 1.47 version of vray, until now, I have been using 1.09.
If i want to render an older scene (interior) with 1.47 I get totally different results from 1.09, since i use mostlly exponential color mapping. I have noticed that linear collor mapping differs only slightly from the older version.
I'm adding some images here to show what I mean.
I'm sure some of you already ran into the same 'problem'. I know no backward-compatibility was promised with 1.47, but these results seem to be too differen....am I missing something?

To make a long story short....how can I get good interior lighting by using exponential color mapping?(like 1.09)

    thanks in advance.

Hi, ciiid, and welcome to the forum...

The ColorMapping in the older version of V-Ray 1.09.xx was different than the one in 1.47.xx. In the older one, it wasn't operating very correctly as one of the values (Dark/Bright) hadn't been taken under consideration during rendering.

In the newer version 1.47.xx both have their control over the exposure.
Actually there is no rule, which You can follow to have the same result in 1.47. like You have in 1.09.
It will probably need some new lighting setup, as things have changed.

    Best regards,

ciiid, you need to set both the dark and bright multiplier to the same value to get the same effect as in 1.09.

        hi,

Candelero and vlado, thank you for your reply, ITS WORKING!!!
...well not exaclly as 1.09, as you can see in the attached image,
        but the result is promising.
I just have another question regarding the shadow,
the shadow is created from a direct light which have area shadows.
Do you know why there is a difference between the two versions?

Thanks again for your fast reaction.

In the older V-Ray 1.09. the rays cast from a direct light were not exactly parallel to each other... while in 1.47. they already are...
That's why You have that shadow difference. The 1.47. is the correct img.
