  • RPF Issue

I'm having a problem with the RPF format and Materials (both standard and Vray) that use the opacity slot. If i save out to an RPF, the edges of the materials get "burnt".

The first image below shows the problem. The image looked fine in the farme buffer, and when saved to any other format than RPF. The RPF was brought into Combustion 4 (I also tried C3), and this is how it looked. The second image is how it is supposed to look. Has anyone else seen this?

    Using Max 8, Vray 1.47.03, Combustion 4.

    Thanks,
    Chris

What do u have behing the problematic trees? Is it nothing, just void alpha?
I noticed this problem with opacity mapped trees because there was nothing behind them. Adding a plane, with vray matte on, solved my problem.

Oh, and check if u have ticked the premultiply thingy in combustion.

There is a Vray Plane "behind" the trees, but other than that nothing. It's the plants that are really bad. I'll check the premuliplied alpha setting on the footage controls, but i think i remember it not making a difference.

      thanks for the help...

Have You tried reducing the Blur to 0.01 on the bitmap of the trees' image...

I am talking about this, looks familiar:

I have seen this as well.

This particular example is not the blured alpha trick. This isn't visible in a normal render. It's only visible when saving to RPF.

Vlado suggested it might be a bug in how Combustion imports RPF, but I haven't been able to duplicate the effect with any other rendering engine.

It also seems to be partially related to color correction. I noticed that If I used the real RGB channel in combustion instead, the artifact didn't appear. But then again, exposure would be all screwey.

I thought this is a straight render...

Nope, it's what it looks like in combustion. Straight render is fine. Sounds like a bug then huh?

are the trees rendered against black background? if not that could be the case.

As asid in the other thread you need to go to 16 or 32bit RPF

That fixed it for me when i was playing with dust particles.

double check that you have the coverage channel as well... i think that helps
