    jeebus what a hassle!

we are having problems with some scenes which only occur with displacement. i think the displacement map may be too detailed or something

I had a similar problem and Vlado suggested basically what EGZ said so follow that.

glossies and glass etc are very very slow at large res so im thinking you almost have to reduce the quaity in the same way as you would to the irradiance map settings. possibly change the noise threshold to a lower setting.

      Clifton Santiago:
Did you try just turing on dynamic memory by itself.

Daforce: What do you mean? Just turning on dynamic memory and not adjusting anything else? Yes, but that wasn't enough. My memory would still max out unless I changed a lot of other settings.

HELP!!!!!!
            Happened to me too.

How much lower should I reduce the Irradiance Settings? Only to reduce the Min/Max value -or there're also other settings that I need to reduce?

            My current settings (for 1600x1200):
            Min/Max -3/-2
            HSph. subdivs 100
            Interp. samples 50
            Clr thresh 0.4
            Nrm tresh 0.5

            My reduced settings (for 4000x3000):
            Min/Max -4/-3
and still crashed at this reduced settings

            BTW,

RErender, when you said slices, means render region by region, is it?
Let's say if I only render half of the image, does VRay calculate the irradiance for the whole image or only that half portion that I render?

I was in a hurry when I wrote that, strips was what I meant, as in using the "split scan lines" along with backburner. A seperate imap will be rendered for each strip in single frame mode but it is best to use a saved imap to ensure that all the strips match.

I was having this problem today. It was a file that I had no problems with until the client asked for it a day early. Then it started crashing at render. Even split scan line caused a crash. I got it ok but not the res I needed.

Which is VERY unfortunate to not get it at the correct resolution! This seems to be a serious problem and hope is resloved in coming builds.

Post your file, I am sure we can get it to render at the required res... just takes some understanding of how things work.

Ok...I'll clean up the file and post next week....right now I am in the middle of another project with little time to go! Just bought Windows 64, and am waiting for more ram to arrive! Should I archive the file with all the materials, or should zip the file without texture maps? Thanks!

OK...I installed Windows 64 on the computer (using the same 2 GB Ram....but will increase this now) and now the same file that gave me LOADS of stress is rendering at 3600x2400 leaving the glossy reflections on and using HDR sky. It took 9 hours, but did render. I'm finding now that I have memory problems on my computer at home with the vray raytrace accelerator. I'll talk about that in another post.......SPLOTCHINESS!

try also the bitmap pager. it could help... don^t now how to use it exactly.

and read this from the vray help...

i simply cannot render anything bigger then 4000 px. vray just crashes.
it happens too, if i set the displacement mapsize >4000.
                            seems to be the limit.
my workaround: render it a little bit smaller (< 4000 px) and resize later.
                            nobody ever noticed, or complained.

hmm, currently have some issues to to get large resolution renderings. Is there some news about this in newer Vray builds? How about the bug that unchecking get resolution from max in Vray frame buffer doesn't work with DR?

                                Or region render.
