  • Inconsistent behaviour...help plz.

    Hi all,
sorry cannot share an image (yahoo and idisk don't work here at work).

I have an interior scene, IRR map + LC, and I left a rendering going yesterday, with Global subdivision multiplier (under QMC sampler) = 10.

This morning the image was very dark. (2 hrs rendering).

So I switched back to QMC glob mult = 1 and I rendered a small region. The rendering looks allright again.

How come the QMC global subd multiplier effects the illumination level of the scene?

I thought that value effected the quality of all glossy effects, but light intensity?

    Thank you

    regards

actually, I just sent a full frame rendering and the LC shows the same dark image...even with global mult. = 1

Is the size of the "region" effecting the light level in the scene?!?

LC as secondary does not work with standard materials.

hmmm...yea, I have been using LC second. bounces with all types of materials, it seem to be working for me...

Back to the original question, I lowered the LC to just 100, and now I am getting the right illumination level....

If I had to tell you, I would not know why it went back to "normal"...All I did was changing the size of the frame to lower res (800x) and lowering the LC form 500 to 100...

It is frustrating not to be able to predict the behaviour of the software, althought I am pretty sure it must be me....

          thank you

people have been getting weird results with LC set to over 1000

I my tests (well those of a coworker) 1.47.03 and older LC does not work for secondary bounces but does for first. I suppose your standard mat items are only being lit by primary bounce GI.

I'd be happy if someone showed us we were doing something wrong.

EDIT: Hmm I can not recreate that now I'll have to see what we did to get those appearent results. For now disregard :P

changed the frame resolution back to 2000 pix wide, and LC to 500, and the image is black again (very dark).

Vlado, is it possible that just changing LC subdivision and image resolution (and nothing else!) you obtain dramatically different light levels in the image?

                What can it be wrong?

                Thank you

                regards

                    nope not saved maps here....

Vlado, I sent you a message with a link to the scene.

Please, let me know if you have any chance to give a look at it.

                    thank you.

just another comment on the weird-ness of my scene:

I wanted to leave it render for the weekend, so I send a 2000px wide rendering. The LC would come in dark, and the beginning of the IR as well.

I lowered the output resolution to 1999 and the scene rendered fine.

                      thanks,

                      regards
