    frame 8

    frame 9?!?!?!?

    frame 10

Im having huge inconsistency issues using finalDOF rendering camera sequences with vray, is there anything i can do about this with changing whatever settings?

it renders fine in mental, brazil, scanline, but not vray

if they advertised the fact that it works with vray should this be a problem with them rather than with vray? try to render out a sequence of z-depth images and see if you see that flicker. maybe somethings up with the scene. thats the best advice i might be able to give.

well they can advertise all they want its not that it doesnt work, its buggy and im still stuck with the problem... ive rendered everything from Zdepths to mental, brazil, scanline and they work fine, so maybe Vray deals differently with depth information, i dunno, maybe im missing some setting, cause in general it renders fine, but inconsistently outputs weird frames maybe cause it gets "confused" with the depth...

i would, based on my experience, strongly suggest against using final dof/final blur and vray....they just not going to get along.

Does finalDOF have a demo version so that I can run some tests here?

          Best regards,

I cant speak for fianl dof, but from my tests with final blur the result with vray and final blur were unacceptable, due to a gbuffer channel that final uses which in vray works differently.
Another thing I could think of is that did you render this on the farm or on a single node? I used to had similar problem but with after burn when some frames rendered by workstations would have different noise position then the frames rendered by the farm.

nah, im using a single node... it was my guess to that its due to the buffers but that makes it weird aswell as rough 8 from 10 frames render fine, so what happens when it doesnt render fine.. does vray recalculate buffer information after a couple of frames, maybe this confuses finalDOF...?

why not use vray's dof or post dof? I know its timeconsuming but....an alternative.

im aware of the alternates, Frishluft for AE is what i normally use... vrays own dof is way too slow and requires a very high sample rate to not look noisy

i just did a wild guess and checked buffers Z and coverage, options you normally select ouputting as RPF for after effects post...

                        theres a significant difference

ill now render the same sequence again and see if that fixed it.
                        lets pray

whoohoooo, Z Value and Coverage checked in the vray gbuffer rollout does the trick!

morbid, maybe try that scene you had with finalBlur and see if it helps? im curious.

da elf, i have used depth of fielp pro in adobe premiere. It might work in AE. just have to throw it in the plugins folder....

I was going to try it in combustion today but didn't get a chance to try it.
