How big is the map and how much memory do you have ? sounds like the map might be to big to be loaded into memory.

Are you using more than one instance of the same map?

This has happened to me before when having multiple versions of the same large HDR map (different HDRI maps with different exposures: one for reflect/refract, one for GI environment, one for background environment, and more...). Vray apparently loads these into memory separately and when memory is maxed out, it defaults to a black environment.

The solution was to try to use less instances, and to load some as bitmaps with the splutterfish interface, making sure the load bitmaps toggle was enabled.

Keep in mind you are not using all 4gb ram if you are not on 64 bit OS.

hello Clifton Santiago, thank you , i think the problem i had is when i change several times the hdr file to try diferents lights ambients , i dont know because the problem disapear for now. and another problem that i have been
facing is when i check the "don´t render finalimage" in vray scene , viz crash after the ir map calculation, i don´t know if this is a coincidence but after several crashes i uncheck the " don´t render final image " and viz stay alive.
            regards
