  • Splotches and render time

    Hi all,

I'm quite new at Vray, but i already love the results. Some images I see around here are really inspiring!

I'm hoping someone can give me some advise regarding interior scene rendering.

With help from this forum and other websites, I managed to produce an image which is close to the quality I am looking for. However there are some problems in the rendering which I like to be fixed.

    This is the rendering:

    Full resolution (4000 px) here.

As you can see, there are some splotches on the ceiling, and at the windowframes.
Is there a way to prevent this?

Also, the render time is 14 hours. I rendered the image with distributed rendering, on 4 or 5 workstations.
I've read posts from users who say there rendertime is a lot less, like 2 hours tops.
I hope there are some tips to improve the rendertime, keeping good quality.

    I'm using 3Ds max 7.0, and vray version 1.47.370.

    These are my render settings:

    Thanks in advance! :P

Can you send us the scene, so we can examine it closely.
We suppose you have some material problems in it. Mind to incude the textures as well. Archive the scene for best performance.

          Hi!

You could switch from quasi montecarlo to light cache on the secondary gi engine. This should speed things up. Then i would increase the HSPh subdivisions from 20 to 40 or 60. It this doesn´t solve the problem, maybe your modelling on the ceiling or the material has something wrong, you should check it.

              @ gfree

There are Raytrace materials in the scene. You may need to check this out:
              Unsupported features:
              http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/VRay...nsupported.htm
Best advice is to change those to VRayMtls and forget about using Raytraced materials for further use.

I will keep examining it and will report ASAP if there are other things which can be fixed.

              Best regards,

Thanks very much candelero! I will fix that. Do you think that is also the reason why the rendering takes so long?

Rendering a 4K resolution image with lots of VRay lights in it (area shadows), lots of reflection materials etc. - 14hours can be a reasonable rendertime. At least it all depends on the hardware as well.

Another thing to consider is how you have setup the lights themselves concerning their influence on the windows (glass obejcts). That can really slow down rendering.

                  Best regards,
