  • motion blur and Ink and Paint Ink

    It renders PINK!

I was like, "what the hell????" I thought maybe It lost it's material or something

After some troubleshooting I noticed that if you have motion blur on, assign it to a material, and try to ink any edges the object is rendering Pink. I have no idea why.

It would make sense to me that the material may not work but it was worth a try.

Let me know if anyone has a solution for this. I'd use vrayToon, but it's only on one object and vray1.5 isn't out yet.

andrew, I think the ink and paint material is based around the max raytrace material so it conflicts with vray.
You could always comp the 2 passes together

Motion blur will not work with Ink'n'Paint, as the latter depends on the internal 3dsmax raytracer, which has no idea of motion blur.

I found a way to get Similar enough results.

Motion blur works fine with ink and paint, but really only works on the paint portion. So i just unchecked ink.

I created another material that had a falloff on transparency and made it jet black with no specular. That was to be my lines. I adjusted the falloff to only show near the edge and flattened the curve there. that way it created fairly thick line (to match the one i created in ink and paint).

I just put those two together and it doesn't look too far different.

i had already rendered a few sections, but then we decided to have motion blur on this one part because it moves fast and must be compressed ALOT later on. Motion blur helps alot when compressing fast moving images because you don't have to have keyframes on every frame in the compression method we've learned.

Thanks for the help though. i didn't realize that ink and paint used a raytrace process.

I think this part of the feature should be added to the unsupported list.

Does Vray Toon work with motion blur? If so, I'll be looking forward to the next implementation of it whenever that comes out.

            Andrew,

Could you possibly show/post your material setup that you got working. Im trying to do a similar cell shading material now and cannot get decent outlining happening.

            Thanks Mate.

I saved the matlib, but i realized that I can't upload anything to ftp externally. They've blocked it for obvious reasons.

Does anyone know of a good place to upload files that other people can access them.

It's just a matlib, so it's small enough to email if you want to pm me; otherwise let me know where upload it without using ftp.

My website has a nonFTP upload, but they seemed to have blocked that too.

One thing I've noticed while working with vraytoon. Click the optimized atmospheric evaluation button under "System". It really improves the quality of the lines.

ok, I think I got that right.

                      the link should be http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GMLAWFGJ

You have to wait like a minute before you can download, but it's free...
                      Thanks for the links.

One was blocked here already. Too bad this is a big enough company that it's Really hard to get to IT or bypass them.
