  • I/O error every first render

I've spoken with autodesk already and i narrowed it down to a vray issue.

When rendering, One machine in particular but not the others, we get an I/O error and the rendering fails. If we submit the exact same shot again it renders the second time every time without failure (well, unless we did something else dumb).

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything on her machine, but I still get the same issue.

If she takes her file and renders on either of the other computers it renders the first time. She is on a dell and the other two are similar HP's. All are XPsp2 and have as similar settings as possible while still having 3 different users. I'm never aware of some small changes that they make themselves, but I make sure we have the same setups as much as possible.

Any suggestions? When she has to submit 20 different images on the same day it get's rediculous to swap computers all the time or have her submit each file twice and delete the bad ones.

I'd try plugging her computer into another port on your switch or something, sounds more like a network setup issue than V-ray issue.

I changed the cable, restarted, and it nearly worked.

It gave me some wierd XML error I hadn't seen before.

Well, Autodesk seems to have F'd that up, so I knew what to do. Delete the file and let max create it again.

What'd'ya know, it worked. And Autodesk said it was definitely a vray issue.

Seems to be solved for now.

Very little of V-Ray deals with any I/O directly - usually these are the different kinds of maps (vrayhdri, irradiance caches etc), .vrimg files and vrayproxy meshes. Everything else, including bitmaps and render output is left to 3dsmax.

          Best regards,

we also get this kind of error, on exeptional scenes. randomly, for no apparent reasons nodes get i/o errors but next try they load it and render fine.
its well max...what can i say.
