  • Noisy glossies..... why?

I have this trouble all the time. Why do I have such noise in my glossies?

Look at the material all around the windows. It is supposed to be metal panel, like bronze. The material refl and gloss are set to reasonable values for the material. Subdivs are 10. For render settings, I used IR (-3, +1) and LC (1200, 0.01). Noise was set to 0.001

Ok. No overlapping faces. AA is Adaptive QMC 1 / 4, Mitchell-Netravali filter.

I think the easiest way would be to share that scene ... But i think its your general scene setup ... lights, lack of enviroment ....ect ect ..

We found "good enough" subdivs for something with a glossiness between .85 and .6 is around 25-35.
Give the way VRay uses the QMC sampling, raising glossies there means the AAser does less work, times do not skyrocket, and speculars are neatly drawn...
'Course you wouldn't want to cover your screen with glossy stuff

I agree with studioDIM, subdivs of 25 - 35 is were I usually end up for quality glossies on metal. Other materials you can usually get away with lower numbers but not with reflective metals. At least thats what I have seen.
