  • render presets not holding

I have a file that I have to use a toon shader. Of course, ink and paint doesn't work in vray, so I have to use mental ray (or scanline).

The problem is when I return Vray's settings are back to default. I saved all the info and named the preset. It changes something, but it definitely didn't hold all the settings.

I'm looking specifically at the Image sampler. No matter what I put for the setting it goes to Adaptive subdivision with min -1, max 2

but I had 0 and 3 because I had to oversample this thing a little bit.

I Think everything else held, but I don't know for sure. Can anyone else verify this? Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug?

save out the render presets from the Max render dialog
It worked a treat here: it even saves out the IRMap saving settings: i was able to prepare a batch render with 4 different cameras, and 4 different IRMaps names, and render the lot with one click.

    Hope it helps...

I suppose that's fine if it works, but then what is the presets button for in vray?

      I'll give that a try

I think Ink'n'Paint should work fine for the most part with V-Ray, including the toon lines, although it may take extra memory. You can also use VRayToon.

        Best regards,

Can you explain how you "render a lot with one click"? I'm on Viz 2005, are there new batch rendering tools (render multiple cameras, load settings, etc.) in later releases that I'm not aware of?

          Thanks,
          David

when you batch render you can choose, per job, a scene state (max 7.5) and a render preset to go with a camera.

I'm not sure it's in Viz, so i can't comment on it, sorry.
