yes we did try it with the same result - nothing. you can interact the panorama in the viewer after the render' finished but when you export it QT doesn't even create any file!....I guess it's something with the QT itself but...

hmm i tried it here and it works. Are you trying to export QTVR or simple QT...if simple QT then why would you need panorama inside QT?

as an alternative you can render using vrays fisheye camera (image aspect 1:2 - i.e. 1000 wide by 500 high) and convert it to a quicktime panorama or use a fisheye viewer like ptviewer

the problem's that we need at the end a *.mov file so we'll be able to put it on an interactive cd. with the standart panorama tool in 3dmax we can export the fisheye image but how can we convert it to *.mov file?
that ptviewer's a viwer only or it can make the QT movie?
              thanks in advance...

I'm not sure about your problems exporting a QTVR using the normal panorama exporter but.... I have produced a lot of QTVR files by rendering a spherical VRay camera with a 360 FOV (as mike.edel described). To convert to .mov file I use PanoCube (http://www.panoshow.com/panocube.htm). You'll need Panorama Tools v2.5 but I don't recall where I got it. Once "installed", just drag the rendered JPG, TIF, etc onto panocube.exe. It even makes short HTML file to load in a plugin.

                  http://panotools.sourceforge.net/
the original author has been forced to stop development (a company in the states has a patent on software that creates panoramas from fisheye photography images with a fov larger than 160° - now somebody say software patents dont hurt innovation...)

btw: ptviewer can be called from inside applications/websites so it still would be possible to put it on an interactive cd

                  ps: this should also work:
                  http://www.pano2qtvr.com/
can convert equirectangular panoramas or cubic panoramas (vray cubic camera) to .mov files
lots of settings, free for personal
                  commercial license: 75€

Just thought that I'd add we're having the same problem here. We can render and view the 360 file but no luck in exporting out and creating a file.

if you just need the panoramas for presentations, ptviewer might be a better choice - it is faster, there are versions for almost every os (mac, pc, mobile, linux), has hdr support
you can customize the display using html
                      http://webuser.hs-furtwangen.de/~dersch

java version with hdr support and autoexposure:
                      http://webuser.hs-furtwangen.de/~der.../hdrtest1.html
                      http://webuser.hs-furtwangen.de/~der.../hdrtest2.html

                      native pc version
                      http://webuser.hs-furtwangen.de/~der...TViewerexe.zip

the easiest way to use the pc version is
                      ptviewer.exe mypanorama.jpg

Packaging files using the Jar utility

All files belonging to a VR-scene (images, sounds, textfiles) can be packaged into one single archive using the Jar archiving tools. This is a convenient way to store, mail and present virtual tours. Only the html-file has to be kept separate. Double-clicking this html-file launches the browser, which then automatically extracts and displays the content of the file. See the separate documentation about packaging tours for details.

vrmakepano from apple converts stitched/rendered panoramas to .mov files
                        http://developer.apple.com/samplecod...rmakepano.html
images have to be divisible by 24

turn your image 90° ccw (left side is down)
save as something that quicktime can read (png, jpg, tif,

first select the source for the pano
then select hotspot files if needed
type in filenames for intermediate files (needed to create the final mov)
                        let it run

                        another description from
                        http://www.htu.tuwien.ac.at/~sascha/ptguide/02.htm
How do I produce a QuickTimeVR file?
The QuickTime file format is commonly used in multimedia editors such as Macromedia Director or iShell. QuickTime files can be embeded in HTML-files using the embed tag. It supports pictures, movies and cylindrical panoramic images - so called QuickTimeVR movies. If you have created a panoramic image (with cylindrical projection), you need to convert it to the QuickTime fileformat with Apples VRMakePano, a converter which is available for free at this URL:

                        http://www.apple.com/quicktime/devel...code.html#qtvr

Note that QuickTime 3 or higher has to be installed on your computer. The image width should be divisible by 24, so scale it carefully before sharpening your image. Then the panoramic image must be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise from its normal orientation, so that the image is taller than it is wide. Start VRMakePano and select Test - Make Pano Movie. When the Open dialog appears select your panoramic image and click OK - an open dialog appears again, where you can select a mask for hot spots, but click Cancel this time. A Save as dialog appears twice, where you enter the name of the tile file (this is just a temporary file which is deleted afterwards) and your final QTVR movie file. As far as I know VRMakePano can only create full 360 degree QTVR movies. If the HFOV of your pano is less than 360 this will look somewhat strange since the pano is wrapped around anyway. But QTVR supports panos with any HFOV (less or equal to 360)
