  • Fog Color gets clipped

Please take a look at the scene. There are two objects with full
refraction, IOR 1.0 and fog color active. Normally this generates
a ghostly object, but when the object gets deformed some nasty
clipping is introduced, resulting in plain, dark areas.

Setting Cutoffs, Max Depth and Max transp. levels to extremes
doesn't help, so any help appreciated...

    Thanks in advance, Rob

No answer for this? There must be a way to avoid this internal clipping...

Well this one is pretty easy.

You have crazy intersecting geometry thats why it looks crap.
You have parts of the front of that sphere coming out the back.. which mess up fog.. reflection.. normal refraction.. everything.

Thats major problem there.. a bad mesh that wouldnt render well even with a normal material. YOu have "internal clipping" because your mesh is clipping.

Thanks a lot DaForce! I hoped the mangeled mesh would be "perfectly"
filled with fog ... but since my mesh deforms/intersects by concept, I
won't be able to solve this ...

Do you have maybe other ideas how to create "ghostly" structures,
          regardless of the underlying geometry?

          Thanks in advance,
          RS

Well its gonna be kinda hard with that mesh.. its pretty messed up at the moment.

YOu could try play with falloffs and stuff... or just re-doing the model itself so it doesnt intersect.

Hmmmm you could try giving it some thickness, maybe a reallly think wall so that the only gap is a small sphere in the middle??

Will try and test it for ya.

Ok, add a shell modifier and have a play around with the values... you can get pretty close to what you want.

Something like Inner amount=30 and outer amount=10 that seems to get very close to no clipping

              see how you go.
