have you tried replacing the materials with a standard vray material?

also right click on the horse model and choose properties and make sure that all the approriate tick boxes are ticked. Like renderable, and visible to camera..etc..etc.

      Obvious but you never know

also might be worth checking if it's on a layer that's renderable...

The layer is renderable and all of the boxes are checked....Weird.....The material is now a vray material and it still will not render....Will have to do more investigating..

          Thanx

Check the normals of the faces, they may be inverted (facing inwards) making your object inside-out...

faces' direction doesn't pose a problem for vray, unless reflection is involved. Besides, I sure hope the horses are three dimensional, which would make back side faces visible.

Sounds odd.. collapsing the objects doesn't help either? How about creating a box, collapse it and attach the horse to the box. The horse will inherit the box's properties, then (sub object) delete the box.
I do this all the time, when max corrupts my geo.

                Eric,

when you render a scene.. say the horse on some grass infront of a barn..whatever.. does the horse just not appear in the render at all?? or does it appear but all black or what?

                More details would be handy.

Maybe the horse is just in the barn and is a little shy
