  • SSS on a tire?

    Hi all,

i found this tire on the net. And i thought it has a funny kind of reflection on it. But it also could be some subsurface action.

Has anyone any idea how to get some kind of a material/shader like that?

    cheers

doesn't look like sss to me
more like burned out bright areas due to limited dynamic range
the rubber reflects the bright environment quite a bit
i'd try a 'normal' material with a fitting ior

ahh rubber is one of the most complex mats. It can be glossy and reflective on one angle and completely non reflective in the other. I think detailed references must be taken for study of tire before creating a material. Most defenently it has fresnel, I would probably paint a glossyness map and a dirt map (not the ao) which would blend in the fall off map for reflection and glossiness and something similar for the diffuse slot.

that image you have posted is either edited or shot in a studio..hence the white reflective floor.

I would fine a more day to day photo and then study it.

it actually was taken in a studio.

the floor is not reflective. it is a light source.

isn't there something like a rubber material that i can work with? i mean something where i can understand the parts used for it? like fresnel reflections and stuff?

          cheers

If the floor isnt reflective then why can i see the tyre tread reflecting on the floor?

ok, there is a tiny bit of reflection on the glass that covers the light source.

                my bad
