  • Exclude Vraylight from Direct light ?

Sorry if that question has already been asked, but i've searched the forum and i didn't find a solution.

I have a simple interior scene, and i want :

    - a Vray light at the window, that emits his nice light + make a glossiness effect on the floor and on all the glossy surfaces

    - A direct light with Vrayshadow to simulate the sun.

To let the sun go in, i have to make my vray light invisible... but by doing this, i loose the glossy effect... see the seond image.

If the Vray light is visible, the glossy effects are nice but the Sun will not go in...

Do you have a clue for me ?

maybe in the direct light rollout tell it to exclude the vraylight?

Or move the direct light as close as possible to the window and move the vray light just behind it??

Im sure there is a better way but cant test anything at the moment.

Here is a quick tweak !

(*) Make a plane the same size as your VRay Light and place it very close to the VRay light, alignments, etc.

(*) Assign a VRayLight material with the same multiplier as your VRayLight.

(*) Make the VRay Light itself invisible, so that your direct may pass thru.

(*) Exclude the plane from the direct.

Should do the trick , though I have'n really tried it. Let me know !

That's what I've done, works great. You just have to make the (plane+vraylightmtl) invisible to the camera but not to reflections/refractions. Also in the Vray properties disable GI and caustics.

There's an advantage of doing this instead of having the vraylight produce the reflections - you can adjust the multiplier in the VraylightMtl and change the strength of the reflection independent of the amount of light the Vraylight is emitting.

We have a GOAL scored! That's exactly the tricky part !
Glad you picked the idea !

Nikki, you make my day, it works perfectly !

As said by dapeter, i've turn off GI from the new plane...

But i had another problem, the reflection wasn't strong enough, and it was even the same when i doubled the multiplier of the vraylight material...

has it no effect on the brightness of reflection ? i'm doing some additionnal tests and keep you informed...

EDIT : when changing the AA from Adaptative QMC to Adaptative subd, it seems to work well... strange

Not really; if you un-check the "Clamp output" option in the Color mapping rollout it will probably work with the QMC AA too.

                  why so complicated?
I'm doing interiors without any vray lights at the windows...!
you have to check override Max's in reflection/refraction option under GI environment rollout. increase it to something about 3-5... voilĂ !

I recommend also the gnomon interior rendering for vray dvd.

                  best regards

It's all about a manner of the working pipe-line !

I did a lot of interiors this way before, but i found the Vraylight more easy to tweak, and maybe faster for a better result and less sttings to adjust... so that's why i was wondering if the combination sun/vraylight was possible

But, if I have to adjust a Vraymtl on a plane for each window, i'll maybe retrun to this old techinque
