fair enough, they're prolly from the qmc (REALLY drunk just now :P)

haha, daforce Im going to ask you 1 question:
did you use vrays photon caustics? anyhow. You did, im sure of it. If you carefully read through, Im not talking about photon caustics. Im talking about physical caustics which are produced by pure qmc/ppt.

        Ahhh right, oops

So you meant not using Vrays Caustics rollout but just using the ones that are turn on in the GI rollout.

But isnt the Vray Caustics a good alternative if you wish to use IR?

they are but, how do you imagine having a vray environment cast caustics? or for that matter if you have vray lights all over, you will need so many caustic subdivisions, that your memory will bugger out.

yep .. on that point I totally agree.

But for things like product renders, and say just a simple pool with caustics.. then the solution i use is perfect.
And in most situations that solution will be good enough IMO.

But if you after a whole scene of caustics.. and total realism then yeah.. the way you mentioned is the only option.
I just think it needs to be clearer in your posts. As i read it as the only way for caustics is using PPT.

well, we were on the topic of light not passing through glass so thats why I didnt mention the differences between the caustics.
Really in real world there is no caustics, its simply a multiplied energy of the light, all of the effects are just light energy. But in our 3d world, these things are broken up, for the speed of rendering sake.
