  • Terminating frames before finishing

This could be one of those how long is a piece of string questions - but here goes. I am working in HD (1920 x 1080) with a complex material that uses a glossiness of .85 along with a HDR to great a brushed look. These frames take a long time to render - between 30min and 1hr20min. I am using Deadline with 7.5 and Vray 1.47.03

Randomly over the farm here at work machines will terminate rendering early. There is no error message, and it is not consistent which machines terminate early - basically the frame is saved after 20 minutes with 3/4 of the frame rendered. A machine might give up the ghost on a fairly simple frame and then render the next more complex one flawlessly.

If I render at a lower resolution ( 960x540 ) there are no problems so it must be related to the size of the frames and how the machine using the ram.

Anybody experience this problem before and have suggestions ?

    Thanks as always.

You'll have to determine if it is a V-Ray error first; although if it was a V-Ray error, I'm not sure how only a part of the frame would get saved. Maybe would be best to ask the guys at Frantic films too. Could it be some kind of timeout?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Thanks Vlado

Thanks Vlado - so it if was purely a Vray error, the frame would not be saved at all ? interesting, I'll shoot an e-mail over to them at Frantic and see what they say. It is a most annoying problem as it doesn't seem to be related to anything logical, some frames terminate after only a couple of minutes rendering and then on the same damn computer they will render the next frame without a hitch.

Thanks for your response - I'll get on to frantic and let you know what they say.

I dont know about deadline but it sounds similar to backburners time to render option where it will nuke the frame reguardless weather its finished or not... Im prob way off base but just a thought.

          It is a vray thing

I was just directed to this post at the Deadline forum :

          http://support.franticfilms.com/WB/b...&read=88&fid=7

It's got to do with Vray not making the frames as failed - so deadline saves them anyway - I wonder is there a solution out there ?

It appears that somebody else has been having this problem, and they identified it with Vray. I've just sent an e-mail to Todd to see if he very came up with anything.

Vlado maybe you know of solution ?
