    Hi,

    I am doing exterior animation and wil need image motion blur. The problem is that at defaul settings vray motion blur is too slow. Dead line coming soon. I tried to put anim sequence as screen in environment and render mblur with scanline. Result ain't too good comparing to vray. Is there any way to extract mblur in AE without any plugins when rendering from max? Or is there any way to speed up the mblur in vray comparing to default settings.

    Do you usually drop the quality settings when rendering with blur compared to still-images. Could anyone say some general settings regarding image quality when using motion blur. I could look then if I have them too high.

    Right now my settings are:

    adaptive subd 0/2, rand and normals checked

    aa filter is quadratic

    irr preset medium and 24 HSph

    noise treshold in qmc sampler is 0,001

    I would turn up your noise threshold to .002. For animations I usually use 0.5 frame motion blur on the camera and it doesn't seem too slow. But I haven't time tested vs. no motion blur.

    Also, you should be able to add motion blur in post in AE, but I'm only just learning it myself.

      If you could or someone else say is it possible to add mblur in post in AE when rendering from max. I have tried rendering to rla or rpf but can't get the motion blur out of it.

      At default settings vray mblur gave 2x rendertime. But I'll check if the default is more than 0.5. Then I can lower it abit.

        Adaptive qmc for your anti aliasing will be far quicker - Any of the blurry effects in vray are adaptive themselves and wont always use the maximum samples specified if they arent needed so the amount you type in for the samples isnt a fixed amount.

        When you use adaptive subdivision and a blurry effect, the two of them pretty much sit around for ages going "Okay what settings are you using and I'll adapt to you" and then the other one goes "No don't worry about it - I'll adapt to you instead - what settings are you using". It's kind of like two really polite people walking through a door and saying "After you" "No, after you", "No I inisist, after you" and taking ages to get through the fucking door...

        Because of this, it's sometimes better to use the adaptive qmc which is a simpler method than the subdivision. Because it acts dumb, it allows the adaptive sampling in the blur to work better.

          joconnell: Thx for your reply. You couldn't have replied at a better time. Was just wondering why my rendering is takeing ages. I'll change back to adaptive qmc. Btw do I have to render irr map again if I change from adapitve subd to adaptive qmc?

            No you don't need to re-calculate. IR is independent of AA. In fact, before there was a "don't render final image" option, we used to set the AA really low so as not to waste time rendering images when calcualting IR.

              I figured it would be something like that and hit the render button and it looks fine. And it's so much faster than adaptive subd. Only abit slower than without mblur. Thx for the help. My first vray project and I have learned alot already from here.

                    Yeah I worked as a lecturer for a few years and found that different explanations work better for different people - Will add this to the bits we have to do - I'm going to get started this weekend. Shall we get a list started ?
