  • White flickering render glitch

    Hi All,

I hope someone can help. I've created a simple scene of some aircraft flying past the camera, but I'm getting flickering white issues on the canopy.

I managed to fix the problem on the distant planes in Photoshop but the forground planes are a bigger issue and I'm hoping it's something easily fixed in Vray.

Here's a WMV of the scene in question: www.motion-graphics.co.uk/glitch.wmv

The scene was rendered in Vray 1.47.03 on our render farm and is lit by an HDR spherical image map and a direct light casting Vray area shadows, with QMC for primary and light cache for secondary bounces.

I would very much appreciate any help or advice given

    All the best,

    Andy

I'd check to make sure you're not using interpolated glossy reflections anywhere in the materials. they can cause that kind of thing.

what are the settings for your light cache in the secondary bounce?

Could you post your cabin glass material settings? It looks like something weird is coming from some of your settings...

Interpolation isn't checked and my Light Cache settings are here:

I know I'm doing something wrong, it's just figuring out what!

          no i think it's a co-planar faces issue.
Check the geometry to make sure that there aren't two faces in the same place - or change the Rays Bias to 0.001 or higher.

Nice animation by the way - really really nice. How did you do the clouds, or is it camera matched footage?

          Looks mint.

Thanks sv. The clouds background is real footage, motion tracked with the Pixel Farms PFMatch (http://www.thepixelfarm.co.uk/produc...cts.aspx?PID=4).

I seem to have solved the problem now. I've turned off my reflection falloff map and clicked on Fresnel reflections - No more flickering!

Thanks for all your help though guy's! I'm going to re-render it with more forground planes and speed them up a bit too.

            Cheers,

            Andy

what kind of falloff map did you have on that? I've never seen a falloff map create a problem like that.

Try the suggestions in my first post and see what happens. Sounds like the fresnel bug to me.

I see. I never set my falloff up like that or used it with fresnel checked in the vray settings. No wonder I never saw that before.

Aha, that was the problem. I had a fresnel falloff map. Good to know for the future, thanks

Glad to help. Be sure to post the finished animation. It looks absolutely fantastic now, even with the flickering.

What is this going to be used for?

Unfortunatley I can't say too much about the project at the moment, but there should be a website up soon to promote it that I can point you to - When it's up that is!
