  • Cannot create bitmap with 1.5

Created a 3960x3960 pixel render using DR into the vray frame buffer and when I come to save it it says 'Vray error: Cannot create bitmap'.

This happened with older versions every now and again, but I thought it would be sorted in the new build. I have had to do screen grabs into Photoshop and grab an alpha from a previously created render.
    Kind Regards,

Yep, I've come accross this with large-ish bitmaps as well sometimes, but I'm not sure what V-Ray can do about it other than implementing our own file saving code without going through the 3dsmax output plugins. I'm thinking of adding an automatic writing of the image to a .vrimg file, so that at least the rendering can be recovered in that case.

It may help if you uncheck the "Get resolution from 3dsmax" option, and keep the 3dsmax output resolution small, while setting the actual resolution separately for the V-Ray VFB.

If you want to be 100% certain that you will not lose the image, you can either use the 3dsmax frame buffer (this works with render elements too now) or always add writing to a .vrimg file as a backup.

I'll add this to the known issues list for now. This should not be a problem on 64-bit 3dsmax though, when it comes out.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Thanks for the explanation Vlado - the auto save feature would be a godsend I think.
