  • Reinhard color mapping and colors

    Hello guys,
maybe just a stupid question, but what is the right workflow when using reinhard mapping????

Ive started with default max settings ...no changes of gamman input output in max preferences

i have vray sun, vray physical cam
    reinhard mapping on 1,0 0,2 1,0
    no srgb in VFB

    now

in material editor due to the defaul max settings all the mats seem to be very rich and dark, however in render the mats seem to be a littl ewashed out....

is taht due to the camera settings?
    mine are f-number 8, fstop 200, iso 400
but no matter how i change it the mats in the render do NOT correspond to the colors in th ematerial editor...

any suggestions for the right or more balanced settings settings...? because with this I am simply guessing how its gonna come out...

    Thanks for any help

Do you think it will help if color mapping was applied to the material editor too?

    Best regards,

definitely.....with LWF and gamma mapping i could predict the resulting colors in the render...the materials in material editor were more WYSIWYG.

Would it be too hard to implement this feature into material editor?

I ve been trying to play with the settings in the max gamma preferences but did not come up with anything really i did either ge twashed out colors or too dark.

I reckon that you have implemented reinhard mapping cos it works better with the new features such as sun and physical camera....it works like a charm, but gamma settings need to be disabled in the preferences to get correct results, unfortunatel the colors in material editor are somewhere else than can be seen in the render

      is there any workaround?

Weird, ive had no problems with dark mats in the material editor, every thing matches in the frame buffer aswell

Why not carry on with the max gamma preferences you where using with LWF ? At least as you say, you can predict the resulting colors..
Thats all im doing, and it works fine here..

          Hi,
I think there is something wrong in Vray with color maping ....textures look not only incorrect but some PLASTIC strange effect appears and sometime it is difficult to correct it even by material params....May be GI gives the effect.....
