  • Light Cache/Material problem Vray 1.5

    Hi...

I'm trying to render an interior, using the Vray 1.5 sun, sky and physical camera, for a sunlight animation.

One of the objects in my scene is some roman blinds along the windows - without these the LC takes less than a minute - with them on it takes ages, in fact estimated time jumps up to 500h and rising.

I have narrowed the problem down to an issue with the material on the blinds - and that the scene renders fine if I disable the opacity map.

I have included a test model and maps (just the blinds and some test objects) - try hiding/unhiding the curtains... (NB sun is animated)

    Question is:
what is causing this big jump in calculation time - I even put the blinds on a simple box - which renders w/o problems

I often get LC times going up to 500 hours, but it does come back down after a minute or two. Just when youve got really complex lighting/shadows to calculate it.

In short, i dont know - something is broken but pay little attention to the estimated time for the light cache. Did you try leaving it or are you cancelling when the render dialog pops up?

Just noticed youve already had it going for 2 minutes - try lowering the quality a lot to see when it does start to work.

yeah... tried leaving it for hours with nothing happening.

settings are already very low LC is only 500 subdivs and tried with both IrrMap and QMC for first bounce.

It works fine without the opacity on the blinds - so I can work around it - just curious to what is causing this - worked fine in 1.47.03

i think is not material related...its geometry....i d try to redraw some simple planes no thikness and replace those...
i rescaled ur file to cm and the ffdboxes came all wrong as i removed them rendertimes became smaler....but too high anyway...r u gonna animate them?

No, im not animating the blinds - well... I hope not - just static cam with sun moving.

I think you're right, it probably is the model - I think we might exchange for much simpler planes, and maybe try the Vray2sided material instead.

its just that im worried there might be changes from 1.47 to 1.5 that might affect our existing model library...

BTW... any advantage of scaling to cm's rather than mm's?

              they d look nice animated!
hope u manage to srt it out...

I had a similar problem with hughe LC times...I narrowed it down to an applied displacement map in one of my v-ray materials....

If you wish you can send me a scene with just the blinds so that I can take a look at what may be wrong.

                  Best regards,

Hi Vlado... theres link to a file w. the blinds in the original post - but I think its just bad modeling.
