  • Lightcache long calc times

I have a very busy scene that when I render 3000 pisels wide, the lightcache takes forever (says over 80 houus and doesnt move.) However, when I render small, it outputs just fine. I thought Lightcache was resolution independant.

    Using 1. RC2.

It is. but if you have displacement, glossies.etc..etc.. then at a bigger res it will slow the LC down at the start.. often it will take a little bit to get going then rip thru.

I was working with a file recently that had some maps in the opacity slot of the vray material and that seemed to really balloon the LC calc times.

Yeah opacity will slow it down as well.

Well - I think I 'may' have discovered what was happening. So many deadlines, and I'd backup lots of files and update maps. I think the DR was referencing slightly altered files cause once I stripped the paths and pointed them to a single location, everything seems to be working much much better. Also, I made sure to kill 'simple file sharing' on all the machines.

Turn off the "Show calc phase" option and see if that helps.
