  • Vraysky problems

    Hi chaps,

I'm having some real problems with the vraysky it seems no matter
what i try, the sky will only render as a very dark blue colour.

I've read some of the threads on here, but nothing makes any difference.

    I've tried the following:
    1. Vraysky in max environment slot, sky renders dark blue.
    2. Vraysky in vray GI environment override slot and ref/refract overide
slot, sky renders what ever colour the max env slot is set to.
    3. Tried ticking and un ticking Affect background for all the above.
    4. Tried using different f-stops and shutter speed combos.

nothing seems to work. I have'nt reduced the vraysun multiplier because
i would prefer to leave this set at 1 and control the light using the camera
    settings.

I'm now at a complete loss as to what to try next, can someone shed any
light on this cos i really dont know what else to try.

For colour mapping i'm using HSV exponential, the same that is used in
the examples in the help document.

    many many many many thanks
    steve

Just checking... and dumb question... you are placing an actual VraySun in your scene right? The VraySky does nto work without the sun in the sky. The color and brightness of the sky is dependent on the position that you place the sun in the scene. Also.... are you using the Linear workflow?

I have had perfect light blue skies in all my files until yesterday when I accidentally turned off gamma adjustment. Suddenly it became dark blue. Maybe this is the problem... i.e. LWF (as Chris mentioned)

Hi, cheers for the replies, I'm putting the vray sun in the scene but i'm not
using linear workflow, do i have to work in linear to get the sky to appear
as a nice shade of blue?

I suppose you could get it looking right if you experiment with color mapping in conjuntion with affect background option.

cheers, i'll have a fiddle with colour mapping, see what happens.

Quick update, it was a LWF thing, gone back to using LWF and sky renders
fine now, cheers for the input.
