  • Vray Physical camera & Normal Max camera

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to make a max camera and vray physical camera have the same field of view - even though I inputted the same focal length they appear to be slightly different.

Anyone know how to make them identical?

    Thanks.

They will be different, yes. The actual FOV for the V-Ray camera also depends on where the camera is focused. This is a real-world effect that you can observe with real cameras, but it is not simulated by the standard 3dsmax camera.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

The first link is to a script that does the automatic conversion from standard to vray physcam.
It also automatically matches the film-gate (something normally overlooked, as it doesn't sit within max's cameras...), target distance and focus distance.
My own experiments showed it does a good job of matching the two, with only a VERY slight difference, due to what Vlado explained.
It would be better if anyone who used it a bit might confirm or deny this, though.

Also... check the aperture width... in the render dialogue and the VrayCamera need to match. By default the max one is set to 36mm, and the Vray camera (which ignores the max setting) is set to 35mm.

Aye, it's called Aperture Width, in the common render dialog, and film-gate in the Physcam.
          Scripts takes care of it.
