Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but I can't seem to get matte shadow objects to render properly with Vray Physical camera. Instead of showing through to the background, they are just rendering black. I am assigning the matte shadow via Vray material wrapper. I am not having any problem when using Max standard camera.

matte shadow and Vray physical camera problem

Yeah, same problem here. I tried setting the ground plane to all sorts of matte properties (through vray poropeties, override mtl, alpha 0,-1, etc) and they all rendered black. I thinnk it worked fine if you uncheck "exposure" in the camera but that's not the point. I've noticed the background is showing up, it's just very, very dark. I think it's a bug of sorts. Best solution I have other than using a regular camera was to uncheck objects as "visible to camera" - they cast shadows and block GI but at least don't show as black but won't receive shadows AFAIK.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

I'm having this problem as well, using vray 1.5.00.
Did anyone come up with a solution for this using the physical camera?
Thanks,
Olly

Works fine for me... what is your background in the first place? If it is just a solid color or a texture, it probably ends up darkened by the exposure of the physical camera, in which case, you just need to make it brighter.
