  • Volumetric Clouds

    there,

i got a little tuffy here. I want to make volumetric clouds in max. but i simply cant't get it right!
I uses the gizmo stuff and volume fog. but it still does not look good. is there an other good way to solve this?

    greets

Afterburn is the only volumetric plugin for clouds i know in max.
Dreamscape has a sky/cloud generator of somewhat dubious (in my own eyes, of course) quality.
    Both work with Vray.
I had really good results, though, with the good old LW and HyperVoxels.
The ability to texture the noise with layers and animate them is fairly unbeatable, and very straightforward to use.
Made a job of one day to prepare and render some ominous, thick, rolling clouds seen as if in fast motion.
    Comping is then easy.

i really dig dreamscape since a while...took a while to get into it. The default parameters are speedy and easy to use but suck visually. While with some tweaking i find the clouds to be pretty okay. Example i did in a few mins for another thread :

I know they are far from beeing perfect or actually pretty pretty....but it was a quick shot and it shows the potential i think.

i have always liked dreamscape, but i dont like how the clouds never seem to reduce in size as they get further from the camera. Its like the clouds are a 2d map set to screen

hmmm ... , i need to fly through them.

          i could cry....

never ever used lightwave.... i think afterburn is in the tubo toolkit.

do you have a file i could test on? Then i dont have to tweak for month!
