  • Suspected 1.5 bug

I'm having trouble with one scene in particular. It worked fine for some time, but in the last week it has developed a propensity to crash. I can do anything I want in the scene *except* open the material editor. If I merge everything into an empty scene, all is well. But I suspect that is only because the mat ed is cleared when you merge in. If I merge in this way, then load a material into the material editor to edit it, kaboom! But if I simply render, it goes without an error. Materials are pretty basic vraymats - sometimes inside an MSO.

    Anyone else seen anything similar?

it is an odd one scott. Have you tried replacing the large MSOs with just a single material and then try to open the material editor?

Hmmmm. And how would I got about doing that when I can't open the mat ed?

(BTW - I'm thinking that it's not necessarily related to the MSO, but I'm not sure...)

        ah yeah good point......
You could always try lele's mass mat changer script to see if that helps

If you have the blur pack there is a script called clearmedit that will let you clear the meditor before you open it then you can apply a new material to the offending objects you can dl it here http://www.scriptspot.com/download.asp?ID=533&inf=1

Ok. I'll give it a shake.

Another Q though.... How would I find what exactly is the offending object or material or whatever? I don't know the problem - just the result.

im not sure there is an easy way to find the culprit, you might have to go through all the scene materials, but that will be a problem if you cant get the material editor to open!

the VRay switcher script does clear the mateditor when switching back to standard.
It may be not the material in itself, but the material slot.
That is, you may have left one of the sample scenes with IBL that were lying around in the forum in one slot, and upon opening it crashes.
That's the ony case it ever happened to me.
