  • Exceptions and Errors...am out of ideas

    Hey everyone,

i'm completely lost now. Still working on that bike model. It's throwing exceptions all over the place. i cant get it to render at all on the renderfarm. It does render locally SOMETIMES. I slimmed down the file a whole lot, and got it down to 3.3mio polys. I smell a memory leak...i smell everything, just no solution. The most occuring error seems to be

[2006/Sep/27|09:53:48] error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Preparing objects
Last marker is at .\src\staticmeshinfo.cpp, line 468: StaticMeshInfo::buildNormals()

..During my quest i had all kinds of exceptions (preparing lights afor example). Seems to be geometry related as it happens during preparation of objects. So i collapsed all modifiers. I even added a smooth modifier to remove all smoothing and collapsed it in...still the same. Any ideas ??

Can you send me the scene < nikki@chaosgroup.com >.
We would try to find a solution.

okay...problem solved and confirmed....damn autodesk damnit damnit damnit....spend a few days now trying to clean out the model.

The ONLY problem causing my trouble was too long object names. after using the rename tool to create short object names everything works fine and rendertime is below a minute per frame at fixed rate with mblur.

What makes me wonder tho is why this throws a vray exception ?? Cant vray truncate long object-names ??

This is a true pitfall for me as i am working a lot with cad translated models that mostly have very long objectnames resulting from the manufacturers naming conventions.

If it isnt fixable there should at least be a sticky, so i remember the next time....BEFORE wasting a week lol

Happy Happy Joy Joy for now

How long were your object names?

          Best regards,

will check in a few (renamed them all and need to get a renderjob send to the farm first).

But as a hint i had to stretch the selection list over 2 screens to read them in one piece :P

              Hmm,

I sent a file to Vlado some month ago showing exactly this problem. We should do a sticky post somewhere. I know exactly what you have been through. Too long object names is the last thing that one would think of while searching for corrupt objects. You can easily loose two working days with this. We currently have a job where I can't remove the object names, because they are linked to a database. A Bugfix would be a great thing right now
