  • RenderElements + Object ID's + Transparency = don't work

I'm having some problems with the Render Elements - to be honest I have just started to use them (the Vray ones that is) so there are a few things I don't quite get (such as the AA - I'll get to that shortly).

I need some masks - it allows me to perform post magic in Combustion or After Effects.

Above is the Object ID - first of all the AA is, well, not there and it's red - why is this?

Above is the Alpha of the same frame - as you can see the angles in the previous image is actually leaves on a tree so straight away we can see the transparency is not working properly. However the AA is nice on the towers.
(as a note it would be great if this was the same as the Object ID as this is not very useful to me).

Above I've just comp'd the two together here so you can see what I'm talking about with the transparency.

Problem No. 1 is the transparency.

Problem No.2 is how to get better AA - I tried the different Image Sampler settings (Adaptive QMC, fixed etc) but nothing changed - what am I doing wrong here?

Problem No.3 is can we have correct alpha's in the next release please

Oh by the way I normally would just do this in scanline - but the tree's are VRay Proxies so this time I couldn't!

Sorry to be whiny but this stuff is imporant to me!

    Thanks

Unfortunately, this cannot be implemented. However, you can use the VRayWireColor element instead of the Object ID one, and this will work fine with transparency.

Thanks for the reply Vlado - however I just did a quick test and this is what I got:

I tried with both standard and Vray materials..

Still I like the Wire Element and the fact that it has correct AA - thought but still don't understand how to control the Aliasing with the other elements

VrayWireColor is very cool! That's what we have been waiting for in order to create accurate selections in photoshop and somehow i managed to miss it. The only thing missing is a script to change the object's wire color according to the material they have. This way, all objects with the same material would have the same wire color, and it would be easy to select'em all in photoshop!

In that case, you can send me that scene if you wish to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can take a look - it worked fine for my simple test scene here.

So as far as the VRayWireColor element goes, this is corrected for the next RC.

              Best regards,
