  • Animation-moving objects-Irradiance map mode

I wonder if anyone can help.

I am doing an animation with moving objects. I have rendered a version with the Irradiance map mode on Single Frame and the still objects flicker. When I render on Incremental the render is smooth. However as mentioned I have moving objects and the areas I have the objects move I have the obvious problems on Incremental.

    Settings:
    Adaptive QMC 1/4
    AA Filter : Soften 3.0
    Irradiance Map: -3 -1
    Hsph: 50
    Interp :50
    clr 0.2
    nrm 0.1
    dist 0.3

    Any Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

Irmap ain't great for animations really - two options depending on setup time vs render time.

If you have enough time to set it up, do a render with a baked irradiance map for your static environment first and all of the animated objects hidden, then do a second render with all of your static objects set to matte -1 and the animated objects turned on. You can use qmc + lc for the second render. Then use a compositor or the max video post to layer the two together.

Secondly render all at the same time but use qmc and lc from the start. You may get higher render times though.

      joconnell,
I had a question here. Would LC as first bounce and QMC as second bounce work, or should it be the other way around? I found that LC+QMC gives faster rendering times than QMC+LC.

      Could someone please clarify?

      Thanks

Either will work fine, qmc is in theory higher quality though since it's calculating GI per pixel rather than the lossy light cache - If it works well for you though, no reason to stop using it. QMC will capture more fine detail than lc though. Personally using lc for primary always sounded a bit odd to me so I can't say I've every tried it - must give it a go when I get a spare minute.

try to set up some basic scene and see for urself...
i am hoocked up on the QMC LC solution... Lc is lightning fast when used properly and the QMC will boost those little details and tune in those area shadows that will be very dim with other methods when not using high settings...

That is expected , as in this case V-Ray is actually ignoring the QMC.
When you set the 1st to LC , the only working option would be having LC for the 2nd as well.

Yep, thats right, I used LC 1st only for a moving sun animation i did (see my avatar) and it was very very quick with just LC but you loose a bit amount of detail.
But for moving characters or moving object it would probabaly be ok.
But i wouldnt used LC 1st for the whole scene.
