  • material converter script not working in R3!!

    hello all,

we just updated to R3 a couple of days ago, and need to converter some standard and arch. materials to vray ones.....but when running the convert all script nothing happens!.......all the materials stay what they were

we tried that both when the vray render is actively choosen as the renderer as well as when first opening a scene with the object, and the scanline is still assigned.....either way the script doesn't seem to work.

    we're using max 8 SP3.

any help pointers would be much appreciated!!

also we've been looking for the free script converter that someone made a while back, that was working real well with version 1.47......doesn't seem to work with 1.5 ....anyone know if there is a new version for that??

    thanks in advance,

    paul.

There is a material converter that comes bundled with V-Ray itself. The VRayMaterialConverter script by 3DZver has also been updated recently to work with the RCs, but I think you have to email him directly.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Does anyone have a link to the updated script? The one on scriptspot is the old one.

Is it updated? The old one doesn't work anymore. I too need to convert vraymat2standard ones.
        Anyone?

There is one small problem with MatConverter.
Converted vray materials has Trace Reflections unchecked.
We need to check those manually to all materials.
          Is this bug or feature?

I'll second that as well. Did anyone manage to fix/update the script so far. 1.5 has been out for awhile now, and I'm surprised this one has taken so long...
It's good to have a "convert to vray materials" built-in. but sometimes we need to convert vray to standard materials as well...

and i love that how some ppl just come here to be sarcastic to others rather than be helpful... ppl are bound to have requests, so if they don't want it and can't be helpful either, why can't ppl just stay off...
just to increase their post count maybe... right as if they get rewarded for that...

Lol, your an ass, I help all the time... I spend my time to write custom tools and share them with the community too. Why don't you try asking the author nicely or even get off your tight butt and offer him some money for his time instead of just being a smartass and rolling your eyes...

Yeah, you should be charging for the script pack. Too bad it's out in the open now . I know it'd be impossible to control since there's zero licensing possible with a maxscript so it's too bad for you, at least you get the satisfaction of knowing that most people here really appreciate you and others writing these things. A personal "thank you" to you and everyone who's ever submitted a script here (sorry if I can't remember specifics). It takes time to write these things and to learn how to write them correctly and you deserve to be adequately compensated.

I know post counts don't count for everything but questioning a +4000 poster on being sarcastic and not being helpful seems rather rash unless he's read all +4000 posts and has been lurking around here for a looonnngg time. On the contrary, everyone on the member list with over 1000 posts has been extremely helpful, generous and supportive. In general, they got those high post counts by responding to peoples questions, reviewing scenes and adding to the community. This is a very professional forum and is a strong asset to Vray. Not to mention that Vlado regular responds directly to posts and requests via this forum (this topic included). Try to imagine if Microsoft or Autodesk responded in this way to it's users, I can't. Questioning whether a script has been updated or not is fine (ala Joost Ink, Tom B, etc), but I agree with Eric that it seemd like OrionD was upset that it has been "so long...".

Sorry for the rant, it just annoys me.

P.S. I just increased my post count by 1 :P

Eheh, so many thanks for the compliments
Actually, I DO have a full-blown, node-locked licensing system in place, of course written in maxscript.
The choice of releasing them as freebies was purely dictated by the will to try and help THIS community.
I owe it SO much i can't quite fathom it.
Of course I did switch to donationware as soon as i heard there had been like 3500 downloads in total...
That was partly sheer greed, partly the fact that I am SURE there are companies using them on commercial projects.
With the new scriptspot.com up and running, though, i do have my very own blog and uploading capabilities over there, and i released the scripts over there too, for the first time.
Do go over to have a look, it's REALLY nice to navigate through, and it's likely to grow a lot in the next few months...
You guys will always have the buggy buggers first, anyways, as per usual

I meant it was a matter of choice rather than restrictions
