I got strange randowm thing. In some scenes render hangs on last prepass or sometimes when rendering frame. It's just hangs, time is piling up but buckets doesn't move. Anyone else got that?

What is the CPU usage at that point? Do you use the "Low priority threads" option?

before it hangs CPU usage is 100% after that it gets down to ~45%. I'm not using low prority option. I tried with it but same problem. In 5 minutes I will send you Vlado PM with the problematic scene. I would appreciate if you could look at it. It happens on all the render nodes and my worksation.

It's good that it's reproducible; I'm downloading the scene now and will let you know if I find anything.

I just found out that when using dynamic memory it renders ! Only with satic there is a problem. I also wil try if dynamic will work when render hangs during rendeirng frames.

Ok, anyways I've managed to reproduce that here and I'm trying to figure out why this happens now (it seems only to happen on 64-bit max/vray).

            Best regards,

yep, I never had this kind of problem when using old max 8 32bits.

So the culprit for this seems to be 2d displacement; because of the different floating-point calculations on the 64-bit architecture, V-Ray could end up in an infinite cycle trying to intersect the 2d displaced geometry. This is corrected now for future builds and the scene seems to render fine, but if you need that fix now - email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com

                Best regards,

                  32 bit

                  Hi,

we got the same problem as lukx, but with 32 bit VIZ2006 @ winXP (and VIZ2007 too @winXP prof. 64bit) also. VRay relase is 1.50 RC3. Renders CPU are dual Athlons 4200 X2 with 4GB RAM. I will try to set dynamic memory using, if it will does work.

It happens sometimes when we start rendering (it hang at "processing light manager" or somethin like that) sometimes after second pass of irrmap... In every this case VIZ shut down in few seconds.

I think, its could be caused by latest update of windows (maybe). We hadn´t this problem before.
And there is one more thing: we reinstalled drivers of graphisc card- to new 91.47 from nvidia.

Does someone know where is the rub?

I suppose it is a different issue; the scene of lukx was hanging reproducibly during rendering always on the same bucket, while you have random problems. Often random unrelated crashes indicate some hardware problem (e.g. RAM defects or overheating CPU).

please check your e-mail Vlado .
Also this problem with 2d disp is only during prepass calculation or the hangs during frame rendering might be also caused by that?

                        how does it solve?

                        Hello Vlado,

i´ve solved my problem (the crashes VIZ2006 and VRay RC3). I´ve reinstalled VRAY back to the release 1.50 RC2 and it does work fine. I think that there is the problem between last updates of windows and RC3. I tried reinstall drivers for graphics card, I´ve checked the temperature of CPU, RAM memory is OK also.

                        I don´t know, the windows....

                          Hi !
Well stil a problem with DR.
Whatever the scene, when I render the GI in medium (or above) mode
some buckets may stop, the render goes on but with less processors
                          on the network.

It may work correctly sometimes, after relaunching it...

The DR works without any problem when I do some tests in very low
mode. I don't want to say that "medium" or any other mode makes the
problem... I suppose, it is a memory issue, I don't know

It has appeared since I installed the 1srt release of 1.5...I thought Rc2 and 3 would solve it but no.

I use Max 8, xp pro, the master computer is bi opteron 242.
one bi Mp 2.4;one dualcore 6600...

And a last word to get glass back... please

We are also experiencing hanging renders. We are using Max9.0 and vray64. A solution that seemed to work for us is decreasing the bucket size from 64 to 16. Hopefully that helps.

Check that- it works on some frames and not others.
