  • Odd behavior of light when Cast Shadow is turned off

I noticed something odd in the main lobby model that I've been working on, and after going through material settings, objects and various lights I found that the sun was creating it. Here's a simpler version of what's happening. A shelled box with two light fixtures in it and the only light sources in the scene are a VrayLightMat and the sun. When the fixtures cast shadows everything is fine, but when I turn off cast shadows the sun interacts with them?

Thanks for the pointer; I'll make a note to check it out.

I can't seem to be able to reproduce that here; can you send me the scene above to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can take a look?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

Just emailed it to you from my Hotmail account; our work server has an annoying habit of blocking zip files. I also noticed that upon updating to RC3, I'm having problems getting my VrayLightMtl to produce light.

        Thanks,
        Jim

The shadow problem is because you have some objects with overlapping surfaces (e.g. Cylinder27 and Cylinder26). If you set the secondary rays bias to e.g. 0.001, this will go away.

As for the VRayLightMtl not producing light, you need to check the "Generate GI" option for the light bulbs in the V-Ray object properties dialog.

Ah. Thanks for the quick reply. Heh. I forgot to turn back on "Generate GI" after I was trying to figure our what was causing the issue.

            Thanks again
