(sorry, direct linking is prevented on my server....)

I have an issue with opacity maps in VRAY.
I have a water scene with a model for the wake. The areas I do not want rendered cast a bright shadow on the ocean floor object (issue does not appear with just water.
Does not matter if I use a blanked out standard or VRAY material using an opacity map, or a refraction set to render clear, this stupid artifact shows up ever time. banging my head against a wall hear. using 1.4+ and max 7
    Windows 64 bit
    Dual Xeons
    4 gigs ram
    Cheers

make sure filter is set to none in the opactiy map's bitmap properties as well as turn the blur to 0.01 just to be safe.

    See if that helps.
Would you like to upload the scene.. perhaps without the boat so I can test it for you in 1.5RC3 as perhaps its a old problem with 1.47

      Thanks

      Thanks Daforce!
Will try tomorrow first thing, might be the 1.47 bug, but we are mid project and can't change yet.
      Cheers

Cool cool, well let me know how you go.

I think the filtering/blur could well be the key to fixing the render.. but meh who knows

I guess we will know soon enough.

Make sure you don't have overlapping faces in the scene, even though they may be transparent.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Tried the Suggestions Daforce, I'm in the situation Vlado told me to avoid, but I want the overlap to happen, but I guess I am dead in the water ......
apologies......I am using a VRAY plane for the water, another for the land underneath and the wake is a subdivided plane with the wake modeling in and some noise and wave modifiers. I have a white water for the foam and it works well, it's just that friggin' artifact.
I am using a blend with a gradient ramp to transition between two material, the water foamed and either the water normal or a blank material.
Nothing works the way I want it too. Opacity in VRAY is a bear compared to Max or Mental Ray it seems.
            Cheers

hmmm have you tried things like turn off shadow casting for that object, maybe exclude it from the sun and light it seperately.

                Hi Daforce.
Tried it, think it's either the bug or the issue Vlado mentioned. Used to getting away with fakes in MR and Scanline I guess
But with the rendertimes we are getting in VRAY I am kind of addicted
                Cheers
