  • Cancelling Distributive Render Freeze

    Hello all

Has anyone had issues with cancelling the irradiance map calculation on a DR only to have their system freeze. I left my system alone thinking it needed time to clear up the job in progress with 9 render nodes going, however 4.5 hours later when I returned, my main computer was still frozen. I've got Max 8 SP3 with vray 1.5 RC3.

I'm not sure if this is related, but when I initially did this in the past it also froze, but before or while it did, Max decided to incrementally save the file 11 times to a non existent location C:/program files/autodesk//Max 8 (with two forward slashes).

Thanx in advance for any help!

Frozen like your entire machine is frozen, or just 3dsmax?

As for the non-existent file, this happens when you have Incremental save ON; since for DR the scene needs to be saved before it can be sent over to the render slaves, 3dsmax thinks it saved an incremental version, when in fact it did not. There may be a way around this but I haven't found it yet.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Hi Vlado, thanks for the response

Whatever software I have open at the time gets frozen. I had Photoshop and Max open and both stopped responding. I checked the processes and neither program had any activity??? I thought that maybe a reboot would be in order but it didn't change.

I'm not sure if this may be related, but when I first started up Max to do an initial DR, some of the nodes during irradiance map calculations return their buckets black. That's when I had to stop the render. This eventually fixes itself if I change the output resolution and try again but Max usually freezes in the process.

      Thanx
      Chris

        Hello Vlado

        I think I have some more information for you to look into. Apparently the distributed render locks my network drive. I've done another render where the maps are not getting to the render nodes, when I cancel the render Max crashes, but I now know that it's because my network drive is somehow being locked out by the render nodes. My error is as follows;

"An error occured while reconnecting Z: (my path to the network folder)
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
This connection has not been restored.

        Hopefully that sheds some light.

        Thanx
        Chris
