  • Connection to licence Server fails constantly!

We've been having this problem for the last week or so.

Max will connect happily to the licence server (running on a seperate windows box), but after a few renders (usually between 3 and 7) it will lose it's connection.

We then have to restart max, and the connection picks up again fine.

The vrlserver.exe doesn't give out much information, on who's connected, or who's been dropped..

Any advice greatly appreciated, as this is becoming very annoying!

Which version of 3dsmax and V-Ray is this? Do you have any antivirus or firewall software installed?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      It's Max 8 sp3, and V-Ray 1.5 RC3

Antivirus is AVG on all machines (been fine up until now)
Windows firewall is on also, but has also been fine (just thinking, could it be one of the recent windows updates that's buggered it all up??)

        That may be possible.
Check out all the "Security softs", firewalls, to have the VRLServer allowed.
One may be blocking it in some timeout period.

          Ok, got an update..

It's still not keeping the connection, but I've just spotted another problem. The connection to the net rendering manager (on same server as vrya licence server) also seems to drop out.

I can submit netrender jobs, a few different angles for example, but then the connection drops, and when I hit "submit" in the net render dialogue I get an error message saying something about an unknown error occurring.

The net render dialogue conects to the server, and lists the currently running jobs, but fails on submitting..

I'm no expert, but I reckon this is connected to the vray licence failure we're getting..

          Any thoughts anyone?

Unlikely, unless cards have failed on two machines simultaneously..

Possibly the windows connection limit problem? You running server or workstation on the machine hosting the licenses? You mightn't be able to have enough simultaneous connections and it's intermittently dropping one?

Good guess, unfortunately, it's Win 2003 server, with plenty of free connections available.

It's looking like it must be something up on the server.. bugger.

if theres a copy of max9 on there then your prob going to have to uninstall BB and reinstall the max8 version 3.02 I think was the latest "most stable" if you can call it that
