I have been trying to get blend between fast and high quality images from Vray for product shots. I cannot show any for a NDA. I was skimming the forum yesterday for anything that may help. There are undocumented features in the html 1.5 online manual and searching here seems to be the only way to find out what they are. I came across LWF and the color mapping features and options.
I find alot of the images are too bright or too dark. The packages I am rendering are mostly white, but not always. I read where total white in a scene can lead to overly long render times. Which may be one of the problems.
I am trying to determine if the LWF is and option or a need. I found yesterday that it did. However today the same file rendered with no changes lead to a completley different result. Why would this be?
I love the look of HDRI images but they seem to spread their color over the image. For these images color bleeding is not good because the packages contain the designs and any color not in the design would be unwelcome (one feature I like with fR is an option to turn it off without desaturating . I tried and am trying the Dome light with a HDRI and have had no luck yet.
The LWF method came from this site with setting up the gamma in 3dsmax and the color mapping gamma to 2.2. Yesterday I was glad to find it; today I wonder. The setup seemed to clamp and balance the result I was getting before the LWF to something I would expect. It only seemed to work for a day. Why would this be?
Thank You,
joe
