  • Why the disco ball lighting?

Here is a WIP that I'm working on and as you can see, I'm getting small areas of light my floor. The floor is not reflective so where are the lights coming from? I don't think it's the uplight hitting the gold ceiling and reflecting back down. Is it an anti-aliasing problem? Please help me out, thanks.

If you uncheck reflections, in the global rollout, do they go away? Its certainly not an AA problem

Thanks for the reply Percy, I found out that I had leaks in my ceiling geometry. I'm re-rendering to see if that may be the problem. I will keep you posted if I need further help. Thanks.

After fixing my ceiling geometry and rendering, I still end up with the lighting on the floor. I turned off reflection in my global settings and the spots are still there. I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

What sort of materials are you using?
All vray materials? any raytrace or max's architectural material.
Are there any errors in the vraylog?

Here are my settings and a quick WIP render. I'm not happy with the lighting at all, any suggestions on that as well. Thanks everybody.

okay, I would start systematically trying to isolate what is causing the problem. Start by turning things on/off one at a time, ie skylight, all lights, give everything gray material and so on. I dont see anything wrong with your settings other then setting skylight to more then one can sometimes cause problems.

EDIT: Oh, first thing I would try is turning off those IES lights.

could be something to do with high ranges in the HDRI?
The newer 1.5 Vray Dome Light handles HDRI's really well, so perhaps upgrading?

If you still cannot solve this, you can send us (a part of) your scene to investigate to vray@chaosgroup.com

                          Best regards,
