Problem going from 1.4 to 1.5, strange refractions?

  • Problem going from 1.4 to 1.5, strange refractions?

    I get very strange results when I upgraded to 1.5
    Look at the darker outside of the bottle. The smooth one is vray 1.4 and the wavey one is 1.5!
    What is this!!

        Not sure it's a bug in 1.5. I think it's a bug in 1.4x as I remember Vlado told smth like concernin' refraction or smth like that.
        I just can't seem to trust myself
        So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

            hmm looking at it now.

            Hide the water and render, weird stuff.

            How did you make the mesh? Lathed spline I assume.

              Yeah its as I thought. Its just a mesh problem. Simplest fix is drop a turbo smooth onto both the bottle and liquid mesh and set iterations at 2.. 1 might work but I didnt try.

              Renders perfectly then.

                It was done in Maya with a lathed curve and Wire tool for the top part...
                Ok so if I put a turbo smooth it's going to render fine (a lot more polygons then...), but the strange thing is that it works perfectly in vray1.4xxx??

                  Then - use .iges to transfer between maya and max. Or .fbx and you get native NURBS inside max.

                    Depending on what 1.4 version you were running there was a refraction bug, this could have well been hiding the issue.

                    Atleast its an easy fix
