  • Displacement crashes at hi-res

I'm trying to render a rather small model (just about 10 pieces of fairly simple geometry in the scene) with displacement at about 3000x2000 pixels minimum. Simple skylight without hdri, nothing too reflective. I can render just fine at about 1000px. Anything above that crashes Max when it finishes its two prepasses for displacement.

I've tried turning down/off the Max render frame and rendering direct to vrayimage in the vray buffer as suggested but that didn't help. I tried turning all of my displacement settings down so that I have 2 faces instead of 4 and 128 subdivs instead of 256 but that didn't help either. All of my render settings are pretty low including irr. map.

Any ideas? I can provide the scene and maps if needed. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer - these renders goes to press in a national magazine in two and a half weeks and I've got to get it fixed. Thanks,
    David

You can try to increase the "Edge length" parameter for the displacement until memory consumption becomes low enough.

sounds like a memory issue. Watch your Task Manage's memory consumption as it climbs before it crashes, let us know.

Yeah some like memory, are you using 2d or 3d. Often 2d will use a fair bit less memory.
Can you show the render, or even post the scene so I/We can have a look at it for you.
