  • Splotchy Render

Anyone help me with this little issue? I've got a night scene with some street lighting that's causing problems. I've got sphere Vray lights illuminating the scene but they are lighting indirectly via light reflecting off a white concave dome-that's the design of the light in reality! Now I tried using stnd Vray plane lights but the sphere light gives the best ambient result. The only problem is I'm getting these Splotchy results with the final render. I've attached the resulting render together with my settings-anyone got any ideas how to get rid of them cus I'm stumped.

looks like someone left the disco ball spinning............

The light cache settings seem a little low. Have you tried the default settings (1000 Subdivs instead of 300) , and then reducing them.

    Just a thought.

Yep-tried that. I've had light cache set to 1000, irradiance on High preset with 30 Hsph subdivs and 20 inter samples, played with ther light cache sample size, changed the rQMC sampler but nothing seems to work.

Shall we put the glitter ball in the scheme....just to piss the planners off! It's a conservation area

          Groovy Baby...........Yeah!

Pissing off planners should be statutory training......after all, they'll spend most of your working life pissing you off!

Do you have any Vraylight materials or VRaymtl wrapper with high generate GI values in the scene?

Nope...No High GI values, just default 1.0 values.(if that's what you mean)

Does it still occur when you turn them off?

If I turn the lights off they do dissappear-are you thinking it's the light samples that's the problem?

Not sure yet. I thought it might be VRay light materials and the amount of lightcache samples. It looks like you will have to run an elimination process, and start by putting a grey material in the material override slot and do a test render to see if the problem is still there. I dont believe it will, if so then it is probably a material.

Galactus.....you are a genius! It was the paving materials. I had 'use interpolation' ticked and there were only 20 samples causing the blotchyness. I upped it to 40 and..SORTED!

                        Thanx for the help.
