  • slow render start with Vray

    Hi...

We have been pulling our hairs out over this one.

We have a model - polygon count around 200K - so not massive. Lots of non-instanced geometry, though.

Our issue is when rendering with Vray (no GI) it takes a loooong time before render starts and also a looong time to render last bucket, if we switch to Scanline or Mental Ray it renders in seconds.

I have stripped all mats, lights and cams and reduced scene to a simple base (around 1/5 of total geomtry) and the problem persists.

Vray 1.5rc3 - Max9 - no displacement, in fact nothing advanced at all.

    ...any ideas?

try collapsing the modifier stacks, see if that helps?

i thought it was stated before that there was indeed a bug or something causing max9 to be slow to start rendering with rc3 and that its fixed in rc4

just tried that - and it actually renders even slower in Vray. Scanline is still finished within seconds.

reverting to max 8 solved it - luckily the original file was still available in Max8 format.

This is a serious error - can we get some steam on that rc4 development?
