license working, but not always

Here's a trick I haven't had happen.

Yesterday I opened max..I rendered a file (vray of course) and it worked fine. I switched a material and hit render again. It just disappeared, so I opened up the render settings and it said I had to server. I closed max and opened max and it worked fine.

Today I was working for hours with no problems, then suddenly again, I lost the license. I went to the bathroom and came back and then it worked. So what's the deal. I didn't even touch the usb cable. I thought maybe it was loose, but since the second time I didn't touch it I would think that it might be something else.

Any ideas?

If not, is there a way to force vray to search for the dongle immediately instead of restarting max? In case it is for some reason a loose USB connection I should just be able to jiggle it, but then I don't want to wait up to 5 minutes for the license to take again.

Hi, I've been having a similar problem.

I've no solution, but if it's any help, I've traced the problem to Max9. it seems that when I installed 9, the licence connection in 8 drops out a lot.

I haven't found a solution to this, so have just started moving to 9 where possible.

I've noticed this happens WAY more, if not only, when I have 2 copies of max open. It also causes problems when trying to do things on materials. It really sucks.

Could this be a faulty USB dongle?

I really need this resolved. I can't have things slowing me down like this. I'm using max 9 as well.

Just started having this problem 3 days ago - not in the middle of active session, but between sessions on different computers.

Server running the lic server says it DL some new windows updates. Suspect it is some new .net BS or something. Things always go bad when those stupid updates pop up.
