  • problems with MAX 9 and rc3 on 64 bit and 2d displacement

At least I think it's 2d displacement or maybe displacement in general that is causing my computer to come to a standstill.
Whenever I have 2d displacement in a scene, that's all my exteriors and most of my interiors, Vray will stop working after a time (arbitrary) before the render is finished. Only 2 or 1 threat will remain at 100% (but not doing much), the rest is dead and the only way to get out of it is to kill MAX with task manager. I can save the content of the VFB though, so it's not completely dead. It's just that cancel has no effect.
I also get frequent material editor crashes and hanging behaviour whenever there is 2d displacement in my scene.

Now, is there a solution to this problem? Is there a workaround maybe?

Because so far, for me MAX9 and Vray rc3 is of not much use.

I believe that my problem is a dynamic memory problem. I upted the dynamic memory to 3.6 gig and now it works. With other problem files I had to up it to 6 gig to make it work. 3d displacement worked reasonably well, but used absurd amounts of memory in the LC and irr phase and took much longer to render; 7 hours rendertime and 12 gig of memory for a file that rendered in 8 hours and used 2 gig of memory on a dual duo machine with the 1.06 version with irr and dc. With the higher dynamic memory setting it runs in 4 hours on a much higher quality with irr and lc.
    I'm happy again.
