  • Cant get browse window to open

Having this issue where I need to load an irrad map and when I click browse, nothing happens. Tried getting out of max and its not helping so far. I'm using Vray 1.5 RC3

EDIT: switching renderer to scanline and back didn't help.

perc sounds like a memory issue. Often when I had max runout of memory it wouldnt bring up browsing window...
    arent you on 64bit anyway?

Ive tried 2 different machines loading same maxfile. One is 32bit with 3gigs of memory, the other 64bit with 8 gigs of memory. Ill admit the scenefile is pretty large, but the 8gig monster shouldn't have a problem with it. Ill try with a fresh scene and see what happens.

well a fresh maxfile works okay, so its definitely something with the specific maxfile. Memory kinda sounds like a possible culprit, but then theres that pesky 8gig box that also cant open it.

It's probably that the position of your browse window is saved as being offscreen.

Yeah it is off screen, try this:

Hit the browse button, next (without clicking or pressing anything else) press "Alt+Space" then press "m" and finaly press any "arrow" key, now the browse dialog should be stuck to your mouse cursor and you can move it back into view.

You can just type in the filename in the edit box. I've had this issue where Windows will run out of resource handles (not RAM) and does not want to open any new windows, until I close some of the already open ones. Admittedly, this only happens when I have many applications open (e.g. about 15-18 folders in explorer), or one instance of Maya etc.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Another solution would have been to delete the 3dsmax.ini file. A new ini file will be created when you open Max again with default settings.

And lose any custom settings stored in there?

Not that I know about. The only thing that you could loose are custom set paths to your Maxstart UI location, or the amount of undo levels / File history.

Make sure you have Show Hidden files and Hide protected operating system files on and then you can find the 3dsmax.ini file under
                              <DRIVE>:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\<MAX VERSION>\enu
