  • Another opacity bug?

It took me waaaaaaay too much time to track this fix down. But IMO, the VRayMtl should not work this way.

    Problem image:

See the repeated refraction around the corners of the Espresso Bay decal? This shouldn't be. Obviously this is an issue somehow related to the opacity map for the decal. You can also see the same corners shown in grey on the same decal on the right side of the building. I tried every imaginable solution having to do with opacity with no luck.

    Good image:

I finally fixed this, but I don't think it operates as it should. The fix was to change the materials refraction IOR to 1.0. (It was 1.6 by default.) I tried this just for grins expecting nothing to happen. The material has no refraction (value=0 and no refr map).

I would understand this behavior if I used the opacity map like we used to by dropping it in the refraction slot. But if I use the opacity slot, it should be an on/off proposition, with absolutely no relation to refraction, reflection, or any other property.

    Is this a bug?

Which V-Ray version is that? Also, can you show me the settings of the material?

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      Using 1.50 RC3

In the middle of a render right now. I'll get you material details when it's done.
