I am running 3ds max 32 bit with vray 1.5R4 on 64 bit machines. When doing distributed renders, the buckets of the farm machine render differently (darker?) than those on the workstation. However if I network render with BB set to a farm machine, it will also look different than the workstation. The scene is a simple one with a reflective teapot, and 1 vray light, and 3 oblong spheres to reflect into the teapot. (I'm using 32 bit because of a plugin that hasn't yet been ported to 64, although the plugin isn't being used in this simple test render). I can't link to a image file, so I hope this makes sense.

Sounds like UNC problems. Your nodes are not seeing the IR map that your workstation is because the IR map doesn't have a UNC path? Hard to say without seeing an example. Doesn't sound like a confidential project... why can't you post an example?"Why can't I build a dirigible with my mind?"

In response to Eric's response, I still don't understand what you are referring to. What decimal point? Where do I use a decimal point?
In response to Clifton I will try to post an image, and I will also check the IR map/UNC path.
The peculiar thing about all of this is that everything worked fine when we were on 32 bit machines, this is a new problem with 64 bit, nothing else has changed.

You need to get out more
In at least some European countries, commas are used instead of decimal places. For example, 8.3 is written as 8,3. This can cause errors with vray if decimals are written in this way.
As an American, you most likely do not have this issue if your OS is installed as American English."Why can't I build a dirigible with my mind?"

Thanx, I do recall now that some countries do the decimal thing differently.

So if anyone knows what this is I'd sure appreciate it. BTW, I did do a test where I saved the irradiance map to a UNC path (which we normally do not do) and it made no difference.

We went from 1.5 R3 to R4 to help solve another bug, but it was happening on R3 also. Furthermore all the paths are definitely correct, and the same as always. And additionally, with DR it shouldn't even matter, although the same problem occurs with BB network rendering. I suspect it has something to do with some kind of 64 bit problem, because everything worked just fine when we were all 32 bit workstations and farms, only when we changed over to 64 bit did we start having these problems. Are we the only ones?

Ok, I figured it out. At the same time that we went 64 bit, I installed the Simbiont plugin from Dark Tree. And even though I am not using any Dark Tree texture for these test purposes, it apparently is the cause of the problem.
On a related note, if anyone is interested, the Npower plugin, even when not in use also causes a conflict with Vray which leads to farm computer basically not being able to render, even though everything looks like it should work.
So I guess I have to move on to other forums to get this one solved. Thanx to all for your suggestions.
