  • Viz2007 vs Viz2008

    Hi all,

We've just update to Viz2008 from Viz2007 during a project.

I have now a big problem to render my project.

I've encounter problem to render a scene with Viz2008. Not enough memory.
As my scene isn't huge, I did a simple test.
Open in Viz2007 an old scene made with 2007, Render it. No problem.
Open the same scene with viz2008. Rendering Crashes.

Now, I can't go back. About ten days modeling with 2008...
    Thanks for all your help.

    My config AMD X2 3800 + 7800GTX + 4GoRam on XPpro 32bits.

I saw that, but you're still under 32B Win, which makes the 4G of real RAM a bit useless... as it cannot be declared (unless you're running Win2003 Server)

That's mean that I could not get more than 3Go on Win32bits ??

However, how is it possible that Viz2008 doesn't want to render a scene already rendered with viz2007 ?? Even in 400x300.

          Thanks for your help anyway.

viz2007/max8 & viz2008/max9 use a different compiler/memory management system. The viz2008 system is faster but somewhat more memory-hungry. It is likely that scenes that were on the verge of the memory limit and rendered in viz2007/max8, will not render in viz2008/max9 - sometimes a few megabytes are enough to make the difference between a scene that renders and a scene that doesn't.

Well, you can try the general rules for reducing memory usage - e.g. use dynamic geometry, the Bitmap pager, collapse modifiers, reduce texture resolutions etc. there are some tips here:

                  Thanks vlado.
                  All tried but nothing better.
So I decided to convert all my models in proxies and rebuild my scene in viz2007... That's an huge and boring job but I've to render an all animation for friday...
So, as George said : "What else ?"

The crash can come from the fact that I first worked in 2007 ?
If I started my project all in 2008, shall it be more stable ?
I have to decide if it's better for us to downgrade to 2007.

                  Thanks for your help

id tools u can try to convert all ure model in mesh sometimes it hlps you when u wanna render...

                    best regards

                      Hi all,

To resume, I use WinXP Pro 32 bits with 4GoRam, through the 3GB switch.

Rendering, my scene crashes at P:1400M Memory used.

Did I something wrong ? Is it possible to increase my settings ?
                      If I can't go to 4GBRam, am I using 3GB ?

                      Thanks for your help.
